South Africa Headlines News

As taxis failed to operate in Atteridgeville, many gogos and oupas on Monday were forced to walk to various social grant pay points.

Wilfred Sekuto, a 38-year-old security guard and five colleagues went back home at 10am after waiting for a taxi for more than five hours. He said he was going back home to sleep.

Born and raised in Atteridgeville, the driver now operates by approaching people who are standing on the road. He stops next to them, rolls down his window and asks where they are going. “I am just looking at everyone, they are stranded, there is no transport. For me, it’s also a quick buck. It’s like, I wash your hands and you wash mine,” he said.
