News24 say they have seen a letter signed by SAMRC chairperson professor Johnny Mahlangu, which apologises to the ministry of health and the Ministerial Advisory Committee. In the letter addressed to acting director-general of the health department, Dr Anban Pillay, the board said it was proud of “how the government has based its response on the available scientific data”.
Health minister Zweli Mkhize on Wednesday last week responded strongly to Gray’s public stance, saying her criticism of the lockdown regulations “undermines the joint work” the state is taking to fight Covid-19.
