Johannesburg - The Gauteng Department of Education has warned schools who have camps and activities involving water to get permission directly from head office or face severe punishment. “We know that there are schools that have already organised and paid for their trips, but we need to be informed,” said spokesperson Steve Mabona.
“We sent out a communique and we expect the schools to adhere to it. If they go without permission, they will be charged.” The warning follows the death of Parktown Boys’ High pupil Enoch Mpianzi. The teenager died on the first day of the school’s Grade 8 orientation camp at Nyathi Bush and River Break lodge near Brits in the North West.
I understand Mr Lesufi(MEC) is doing all he can to serve the province. His resolution however indicates that he has no confidence in the whole of Gauteng Dept of Education.

Parktown principal suspended, teachers to be charged - Panyaza LesufiGauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has suspended Parktown Boys' High School principal Malcolm Williams following the death of grade 8 pupil Enoch Mpianzi while on a school camp. Lesufi is playing to the gallery and is opening the department up for litigation. I hope the head master sues this arshole lesufi as they are now selectively suspending a headmaster because he is white. What about the headmaster of the kid that drowned in the swimming pool or the headmaster of the school where a truck that reversed in a school build killing 2 We accept the decision taken MEC and we hope justice will prevail on behalf of the family and that such incidents never happen to anyone's child.

Parktown Boys' High trip was not authorised, law firm appointed to investigate - Panyaza LesufiA week after the tragic news of a grade 8 pupil’s death during a school camp made headlines, Gauteng MEC for education Panyaza Lesufi has revealed that the Parktown Boys' High class of 2020 went on the trip before being granted authorisation. He means based on whether they are white... obviously. He already has SAHRCommission on it! Whatever. Now will the Dept of Basic Education tell us why they didn't take a similarly aggressive and vindictive approach when 5 year old children died in pit toilets, and instead fought the miserly financial settlements awarded against them. m not being heartless but so many people to be charged because of one child who went to the water? come on the child was not killed by any of these workers, government must stop gaining popularity by reacting than prevention.
