Chicken Licken ad plants red flag on self-regulation modelA TV ban of a tongue-in-cheek Chicken Licken advert “reversing” colonialism has raised questions over the role of the advertising regulator. 'Reverse colonialism' would have made sense if the person in the advert was a Khoe or a San and not a Zulu. The advert is creating a FALSE impression that the Dutch first interacted with Zulus, which is historically inaccurate - it distorts history, thus should be canned. It's a humours advert promoting a brand of chicken, not a historical account. Are we legislating against satire now? In that case chestermissing should be banned as well.
