FIRST RIDE | Triumph adventure bike combines retro-cool with real off-road ability.

Retro-styled Scrambler 1200 XE is a very capable off-roader. Picture: DENIS DROPPA

It’s a dual-purpose adventure bike for on- and off-road use, powered by the Bonneville’s twin-cylinder 1,200cc with outputs of 66kW and 110Nm. It sells in a single version priced at R205,000. The all-digital instrument panel is a hi-tech piece of kit, and the display interface can be configured to different themes. The Scrambler also features keyless operation, with the fob staying in your pocket as it wirelessly communicates with the bike.

It felt so capable on the dirt that I decided to take it for a real test: the steep and rocky Breedt’s Nek pass over the Magaliesburg, and it fared very impressively.

2019 ELECTIONS: RESULTS ANALYSIS: First rough brush strokes: the ANC can breathe a little easier, the FF+ jumps for joy & DA holds positionAs the 8 May election results are trickling in from the 22,924 voting stations across South Africa, early indications are that the ANC can sigh a breath of relief with what looks a 56% polling support at national level. Several trends are emerging: the DA appears to flat-line a couple of percentage points above its 2014 showing, the Freedom Front Plus is gaining votes, while the political fortunes of some parties like Cope and the National Freedom Party (NFP) are sharply on the wane. But it’s early days, and it’s not over until it’s over. marianne_merten It looks like fighters have a data problem today...🤣🤣🤣🤣 ElectionResults
