This year’s festival will include acts that have been making waves for decades, such as Tshepang Ramoba and groundbreaking queer deejay Ms Party and, after their almost 10-year hiatus, the Blk Jks will be headlining the event, along with the Afro-fusion group The Brother Moves On. #Trending caught up with the two headliners to find out what they have in store for their attendees. The story of Blk Jks reads like that of a veritable rock’n’roll legend, after blowing the minds of the South African underground circuit for many years. The release of their debut album, After Robots, garnered massive success and saw the band get discovered by international act Diplo.
“Things happen, creative differences happen – because there were four of us in the group, it makes four creative energies. Sometimes you think you know what the other wants, and sometimes you just want different things. I think it was important for us to get a break because we were able to leave that world, and we realised that if we wanted to make music, we had to be our own competition, not in competition with the world,” said the band’s guitarist, Mpumelelo Mcata.
