Editorial | With the local government election season now fully under way, it appears that the leaders of our political parties have forgotten that we are still subject to lockdown regulations in the midst of a raging pandemic

With the local government election season now fully under way, it appears that the leaders of our political parties have forgotten that we are still subject to lockdown regulations in the midst of a raging pandemic that continues to kill South Africans in their numbers.

This week saw a number of political parties launch their manifestos – the blueprints of what they plan to do once in office. The truth is that, while case numbers have fallen in the past two weeks, Covid-19 is pervasive and will get worse if we drop our guard.To celebrate his legacy, ANC supporters gathered for days in large numbers outside his home, singing and engaging in behaviour that could lead to mass infections.Political leaders need to send a clear message to their followers that, although the deadly third wave of the virus is mostly under control, Covid-19 is still around.
