The move saved it from being expelled due to the sustained efforts of its former partner Athol Williams

Global management consultancy Bain & Co did not have much choice other than to withdraw from Business Leadership SA . It has done the right thing, saving BLSA from having to expel it in the face of a relentless campaign by former partner Athol Williams.

In its statement this week, Bain said Williams had no first-hand knowledge of these events. It insisted that its work for the tax authority was a “mistake” for which it was deeply sorry. And it cited the findings of an “independent investigation” by a law firm it had appointed that concluded that it had intended no harm to Sars.

This is where a broader perspective is needed, especially in a week in which Deloitte has come under renewed fire for its role in auditing Tongaat Hulett.

Tainted Bain leaves BLSA | Whistleblower Athol Williams commentsDisgraced management consultancy Bain and Company has withdrawn from Business Leadership SA. The firm has been linked to alleged corruption for work it did for SARS. The State Capture Inquiry's first report, released this month, was scathing in its assessment of Bain's consultancy work for the revenue agency. Corruption whistleblower and author, Athol Williams chats to Dan Moyan about this. Good riddance This was inevitable. Let them regroup, reflect on the damage done, get rid of those people that have no moral compass. Who knows, they could come back one day and do something good for the country. I really appreciate all your efforts with the little Startup of $5,250 with all joy over me after withdrawing $10,000 with the help of Arlene_riggio
