Addressing hundreds of DA supporters in Johannesburg on Saturday at the party's final rally, Steenhuisen asked voters to be “smart”.
“Forget about all the small parties that just don’t have the numbers to properly represent you, and certainly don’t have the numbers to keep the ANC or EFF out. The DA is also facing a challenge from Patricia De Lille's Good Party in Cape Town, where it is keen to protect its two-thirds majority, and former DA leader Mmusi Maimane is leading the charge in supporting independent candidates under the banner of One SA.
“One by one, they have broken these municipalities and then left the residents there to pick up the pieces.” The biggest difference between the DA and the ANC was that the former believes the people come first and not the party.

The DA shouldn't have embarked on an overt racist path if it wanted a wider appeal on the electorate. As things stand, many who saw it spit on the faces of it's Black leadership, who can't vote for the bigger parties, are finding smaller parties very appealing.
