Cape Town and Johannesburg residents only have a few days left to lodge objections to the latest General Valuations Roll across both metros.said that ratepayers should view the latest General Valuations Roll, which is open for electronic objections untilThe city said that only well-reasoned options would be taken into consideration and based on comparable sales around the valuation from 1 July 2022.
“Much work has gone into looking at affordability and assistance to ratepayers. It has thus been proposed that residential properties of R5 million and under would have no rates payable on the first R450,000. Over 700,000 properties in the metro are expected to benefit, representing 80% of all properties,” the city said.“More pensioners and social grant recipients are expected to benefit from rates rebates by the raising of the qualifying limit from R17,500 to R22,000 total household income per month from 1 July 2023. Applications may be submitted to the city from 1 June 2023.
‘This year, we also have a new rates estimate calculator that is proving to be a helpful tool on the City’s website to show property owners their estimated rates increase from 1 July 2023,’ said the city’s Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi.
