Lockdown: “I have never been in prison, however, if it is like this, then it is really bad. The only difference is that we’re not behind bars and locked behind steel doors – but it feels as if we’re in a ‘democratic’ prison”

‘The first week was almost exciting but the second week has hit us hard – it feels as if we’re in prison’

“I have never been in prison, however, if it is like this, then it is really bad. The only difference is that we’re not behind bars and locked behind steel doors – but it feels as if we’re in a ‘democratic’ prison,” Mothusiemang said.“The first week was not so hard – there was even an element of excitement because we did not know what it would be like. But it has hit home in the second week.

Mothusiemang said that to prepare for the lockdown his family had gone grocery shopping on the day before it kicked in. But he said even shopping was difficult because many people had gone on a panic-buying spree. “I am worried because his health is not good and he needs me more than ever now. We all know that it is easier for people with other medical conditions to become infected with the virus. That makes me even more worried about him.”Second-year computer science student at North-West University and Mothusiemang’s first-born child, Ketshepile, cannot stop thinking about the possibility of having to repeat this academic year.

Covid-19 lockdown rules relaxed as positive tests near 1 500 - The Mail & GuardianGovernment has relaxed some of the Covid-19 lockdown regulations to allow people to travel outside their home province to attend funerals and to free up the movement of food, medicine and other essential goods from South Africa’s harbours. Is it really necessary for people to travel across provinces? I still feel the provincial boundaries should have been shut before the lockdown was announced to control the spread 🤷🏽‍♂️ Everything that must be done must be based on thought process not amandla, supported by logical reasoning and science but also taking into account our people way of living.
