Covid-19 hospital admissions rise in Gauteng as new variant rocks SA

The number of admitted patients in the province on Thursday were 707 — of whom 312 were at public hospitals and 395 at private facilities.

“In-hospital patients in ICU/HC increased by six and general wards increased by 75 ,” said the provincial health department. The department said the province was experiencing a rapid rise in new infections. The number of new cases this week was four times higher than in previous weeks, pointing to an imminent fourth wave, the department said.“As the fourth wave is approaching it is important for those who are unvaccinated to get their jabs to protect themselves from severe illness, hospitalisation or death in the event that they contract the coronavirus.

The hospital admissions for months higher than the active cases until recently (after it was pointed out to NICD & DOH) when they reversed the numbers. Then NICD dropped the bomb of over 18000 cases that weren't reported on their daily reports and within 48 hours, new variant!

This is pure irresponsible journalism. We are not being “rocked” by anything?! We might be in a few weeks but we do NOT know. And this headline makes it seem like hospitalisations are definitely from this new variant. It’s JUST been identified and only 50 cases so far.
