Opinion | Corporate SA, here’s how you fight gender-based violence

A study shows that such violence prevents an economy from attaining its full potential, and leads to political uncertaintyAccording to a 2014 study by KPMG, gender-based violence costs SA between R28.4bn and R42.4bn a year — or between 0.9% and 1.3% of GDP annually, which is, sadly, in line with global GBV estimates.

There is a plethora of investment opportunities that both directly and indirectly contribute to GBV support. Investment in female entrepreneurs is a quick win in terms of shifting power dynamics and empowering women. Currently, only a tiny proportion of venture capital is allocated to women-run companies globally , but the tide is turning.

Investments in areas associated with the underlying causes of GBV offer the opportunity to prevent factors likely to result in violence against women. Food insecurity, poor mental health support, and poor education have all been correlated with increased incidences of GBV.

Why is it the people who make bread and toilet paper for you to buys responsibility to fight GBV ? It's a grift now right. Say popular slogan and demand some money .

SA must implement stricter immigration lawsA remarkable and significant development happened at the funeral service of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe at the weekend – the booing and then cheering of President Cyril Ramaphosa. Spot on, I fully agree. this is a dumb op-ed. first of all, south africa *did* tighten immigration laws after 2008. secondly, the author just low-key called south african police lazy & incompetent. also, housing and public order aren't better here, but most people don't realise it until it's too late. Our government doesn't care about current socioeconomic. The message mst be clear that all illegal immigrants must go back and implement strict measures in our boundaries. They choose to play father christmas at our expense.
