City chairman John Comitis had told Soccer Laduma on Tuesday that the forward was “not for sale at this point”, but it appears things have moved quite swiftly with the ex-Bidvest Wits attacker now expected to be the latest big transfer. Lakay has been on the radar of some local and overseas-based teams for some time and it's believed it's not the first time there are discussions about the player going to North Africa.

Bafana Star Closes In On Move To Egypt! 1 Jan 29, 2022 - 08:56 am By Mazola Molefe A Bafana Bafana attacker is on the verge of moving to Egypt before the Premier Soccer League transfer window slams shut on Monday, the Siya crew has been told. Frosler Decides Next Step After Chiefs Talks Fagrie Lakay is understood to be on his way to Pyramids should his parent club Cape Town City and the North African giants agree a deal before deadline day early next week. The 24-year-old, recently found his way back in the national team fold under coach Hugo Broos in the two World Cup qualifiers against Ghana and Zimbabwe, and would be the third biggest signing from SA to Egypt following Phakamani Mahlambi's move to Al Ahly in 2017 and Percy Tau to the same side last year. He has been a key player for coach Eric Tinkler at City so far this season, being able to adapt to play either as a lone striker on out on the flanks. Agent Confirms Mokoena Deal Lakay has five goals in 15 matches from all domestic competitions, some of them easily top of the pile for goal of the season contenders. According to Siya sources, talks are at an advanced stage for the player to move to Pyramids in the coming days and it’s believed an announcement could be expected before Monday’s transfer window deadline. Despite interest elsewhere, Soccer Laduma understands it is Lakay's wish to move to North Africa and according to sources the deal is as good as done. But only an official annoucement by latest Monday will confirm the move.  Should it materialise, as expected, Lakay would be the second high profile player from the club to leave during this window – Surprise Ralani joined Mamelodi Sundowns at the start of the month.   Story by Check out the confirmed deals so far in this window!
