After taking it under review, the high court in Pretoria has overturned and set aside a report by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, which stated that police minister Bheki Cele had failed in his duty to provide witness protection for two KwaZulu-Natal whistle-blowers.

The two witnesses, Thabiso Zulu and Lesley Stuta, had been witnesses in Mkhwebane's investigation into alleged multimillion-rand corruption in the uMzimkhulu local municipality. They also had ties to the ANC councillor, Sindisiwe Magaqa, who was gunned down after passing on to the Hawks documents that allegedly proved corruption in the tender for upgrading uMzimkhulu Memorial Hall.

According to Cele’s office, the court on Wednesday reiterated that the two whistle-blowers should be given protection by the department of justice and not the police.

Just because it's PublicProtector Busi that lost this case, some dummies will celebrate. Corruption has won. You snitch, you get listed and victimized by criminals.

This is truly a bad judgment. Maybe it is a reflection of the quality of Judges in our judicial system. And also a reflection on the government's willingness to fight crime with all resources needed.

How does the justice department do it? Surely hiding identity is not enough. I wish they could elaborate how they do it. Like do they hire personal protection guards or what? Lack of information might discourage people coming forward.

Who has the tax payer funded protection unit between the SAPS and the dept of justice?

This is not just a loss for public protector but a win for corruption. Courts lately have become a circus

We are in deep sht I tell you, you become a whistleblower and police do not have to protect you. GOOD LUCK TO FUTURE WHISTLEBLOWERS.

This brings confidence to the public to be whistle blowers

What a disappointed 😠

I think it's the first time that Bheki Cele goes to court and he wins

This country is so f..ked

CARTOON: Cele and Mapisa-Nqakula’s free passThursday, June 4 2020 You get 14 days to fix your human rights abuses, you get 14 days and you and you everyone gets 14 days to hide their crimes... Human rights are not negotiable, they go to jail. Where were all these constitutional experts the last few weeks while our rights were being trampled on? If government is still not ready after all this time another 14 days is irrational. No responsibility without accountability.
