Cameroon star Vincent Aboubakar has edged closer to equalling Benni McCarthy's goalscoring feat at the Africa Cup of Nations after netting the winner against Comoros on Monday night. More here! ➡

The Afcon 2021 hosts advanced to the competition's quarter-finals after defeating 10-man Comoros 2-1, with the competition's

leading marksman Aboubakar continuing his fine form by scoring in a fourth successive match to help his side claim the vital win.The 30-year-old's most recent strike is his sixth at the tournament, and he is now just one goal away from equalling McCarthy's seven-goal tally in a single Afcon. In the 1998 edition of the competition, the former Bafana Bafana goal-getter scored four goals against Namibia alone and finished with seven strikes as South Africa made it all the way to the final, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Egypt.

Should Aboubakar score in his next match at the showpiece, he will also move closer to DR Congo legend Ndaye Mulamba, who is the sole record holder for the most goals scored in a single Afcon after he hit the back of the net nine times at the 1974 edition of the tournament.Toni Conceicao's Indomitable Lions are set to face Gambia in their quarter-final tie on Saturday, when Aboubakar can potentially become the second-highest goalscorer ever in a single Afcon.
