The Confederation of African Football has released a statement following a stampede in Cameroon that sadly saw at least eight people lose their lives.

World News , a stampede ensued, with at least eight people believed to have passed away as a result, while at least 40 others have suffered injuries.    A preliminary health ministry report has revealed that one of the deaths was that of a minor.

  "CAF is aware of the incident that took place at Olembe Stadium during the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations fixture between hosts Cameroon and Comoros tonight, 24 January 2022," the statement read.

CAF responds after fatal stampede at Afcon Jan 25, 2022 - 07:50 am By Kyle Lewis World News The Confederation of African Football has released a statement following a stampede that sadly saw at least eight people lose their lives ahead of an Africa Cup of Nations match in Cameroon.  Ahead of the host's round of 16 clash with Comoros at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, large crowds of people attempted to enter the arena through a southern entrance.   According to  AFP , a stampede ensued, with at least eight people believed to have passed away as a result, while at least 40 others have suffered injuries.       Scroll through the gallery below to see the 11 most valuable stars who played at Afcon 2021 A preliminary health ministry report has revealed that one of the deaths was that of a minor.   "Eight deaths were recorded, two women in their thirties, four men in their thirties, one child, one body taken away by the family," the report read.   The ground has a capacity of 60 000 but Covid-19 restrictions meant that only 80% of the stadium could be filled. However, match officials have claimed that more than 50 000 people were trying to gain access when the stampede took place.   CAF has since released a statement regarding the fatal incident.
