After weeks of speculation around Bradley Carnell’s coaching future, with the former Bafana Bafana player even linked with Manchester United, the Siya Crew can confirm that Carnell has accepted a head coach position. Speaking to Soccer Laduma Carnell said, “I’m excited about the opportunity to head up St Louis City. It’s a new expansion team in the MLS. The style of play that we are adopting speaks to the community out here in the Midwest. There are a lot of firsts here.
St Louis City FC will continue to campaign in the MLS Next Pro League for 2022 which is basically a second-tier bridging league to the MLS with Carnell overseeing the club’s development structures and readying his senior squad for January 2023 when the team will officially step up into the MLS. Carnell, who has been given a three-year contract will be scouting and recruiting players using his network across the globe to bring in the right players.
With Carnell’s rising star in the coaching arena, there is always the chance that a big PSL club could try lure him back to South Africa as happened with Benni McCarthy. Asked if he would be open to this in the future Carnell said, “I’m focussed on the here and now, and looking at my short term, medium term and long-term goals with this club specifically. Who knows what happens 10 or 12 years down the line.
Do you think Carnell has mad the right choice or should he have pursued the opportunity to be one of the assistants at Manchester United?
Congratulations to him
Is the team situated in Europe or USA?
