Police minister Bheki Cele could not have provided “executive direction” during the July unrest and looting because he did not receive any intelligence reports from national police commissioner Khehla Sitole or crime intelligence.

Police minister Bheki Cele alleges national police commissioner Lt-Gen Khehla Sitole was 'nowhere to be seen' during the riots and looting in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in July. File photo.Police minister Bheki Cele could not have provided “executive direction” during the July unrest and looting because he did not receive any intelligence reports from national commissioner Lt-Gen Khehla Sitole or crime intelligence.

He said his office had later learnt an intelligence report was “seemingly” distributed to Sitole, deputy national police commissioner Lt-Gen Fannie Masemola and senior managers within the crime intelligence division. “The police management, therefore, failed to inform/brief me thus, leaving me to rely on my own resources. I had to work with people on the ground in an effort to contain the unrest,” said Cele.“It was only me who visited the affected areas in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng to calm the situation and to try to unite communities affected by the unrest.

“Given the high-profile nature of the subject under discussion, I expected from the national commissioner to obtain and provide me with an initial threat and risk assessment/early warning report ahead of the unrest, and thereafter through continuous feedback, updates and briefings with the aim to provide insight and understanding to enable me to make a contribution to broad strategies, policies and resources,” Cele said.

Can we fire him now ?

Incompetence always blame. The boss did not do his oversight properly.

That in of itself of ample reason for him to be fired, along with his whole department and police leadership and proper skilled people be appointed in their place! Then charge him and the entire leadership with treason!

😂🤡 He was unaware, while the minister of Defence and 'her generals' were in a hotel room 🤭🙈 'overseeing troop deployments' (800 troops) CyrilRamaphosa PresidencyZA GovernmentZA ParliamentofRSA SANDF_ZA SAPoliceService Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they do 🙏

He should just resign, he is a disgrace.

Ooh no he didn’t 😲

State structures have for years been rigged to serve only the interest of the president. It is unlikely that much resources remained for the intended purpose. In addition, when incumbents are unqualified and only there for personal gain, there is lite hope. The state is broken.

Hey this guy!

Not Cele, Not Ramaphosa, not any individual ANC cadre. THE ENTIRE organisation must go, it has failed. Don't tell me you need 400 years when your current path of trajectory is going DOWN.

That remains his responsibility He remains accountable for the dereliction of his duties

What a pathetic excuse. He has had 4 months to think of a better excuse!

Still hasn't received any...

Jou mense is useless. Jy het nie gevra nie want jy is ook te stupid vir die werk!

It's obvious that he and many other fools are in Zumas and the RET factions pockets. By lying they are now insulting us taxpayers further. This doos gets paid with taxpayers money but has the audacity to continously talk rubbish.. I challenge the minister to prove me wrong

Could he have read and understood it if he did? Great at reading and understanding dodgy leases though!

Why is BhekiCele Cele a part of our lives? He is absolutely useless, never takes responsibility. Has the worlds worst crime stats over many years, is abrasive, unimaginative and delusional.

'phone a friend' Bheki.

Another destructive 🤡

Again shifting the blame, excuses after excuses

runawayrene But we do know about the 12 insurrectionists, without any intelligence. 🙉

Piss-poor excuse from a piss-poor excuse for a Mnister of Police! But I don't blame Cele! Cele did not appoint himself, and if Cele lacks the integrity to do the honourable thing and resign, Ramaphosa should fire for him dereliction of duty!

He is a terd!!!~ The piece that hangs on a dog when he has a crap.....

no its because he is a criminal gangster.

We're on our own 🇿🇦🥴

Somebody explain this notion to me please. How can a political appointee give executive direction when executive powers lie with the Director General (National Commissioner)? My point is even if it was given to the minister, they could prompt the Commissioner to act only.

Army in general

Cele and Sithole must be held liable for lack of communication among high echelons in crime Prevention!!!

Asikakhohlwa that because of finger pointing from the side of the Government, the president called on communities to take law unto themselves thus resulting in phenix massacre . Also in pmburg black people lost their lives at the hands of Indians. Can that happen in India 🇮🇳 no

That is just poor leadership

Does he ever ask for intelligence reports?

The African Cowboy just blames.... and blames.... and blames!!!!

Abdicating their responsibilities to protect SA citizens They couldn't phone one another?

Shifting blame the whole day

The responsibility ends with Bheki Cele, NOT with his subordinate. That is why he is so well paid, and is entrusted with SA's safety.
