The Blaugrana are widely known to have struggled over the past year due to financial mismanagement by the previous leadership regime at the club.
As a result, they have had to take some drastic measures in order to steady the ship, including targeting free-agent signings where possible and asking players to take wage cuts.An example of this took place earlier this month, when defender Samuel Umtiti took a pay cut that effectively helped the Catalan giants register new signing Ferran Torres in line with LaLiga's financial fair play rules.
The latest reports suggest that club president Joan Laporta is looking to ensure that the Catalans tighten up their finances further in order to avoid the chaos he inherited in March last year from once again taking place in the future.the 59-year-old has decided to implement an annual salary cap of €10 million for any new players who join after 30 June this year.
This decision comes with many of Barca's previous top earners having recently left the club, including big names such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann , while the veteran trio of Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba all reportedly took pay cuts.
