A woman sent on a wild goose chase for money she paid a lawyer to retrieve for her, will probably never see her cash again, but her complaint to the Legal Practice Council led to him being struck off the roll of advocates and unable to fleece anybody else.

A KwaZulu-Natal advocate was struck off the roll for refusing to hand over R75 000 he owed a client, after giving her the runaround with increasingly implausible excuses and a spot of gaslighting.

According to the decision by two judges in the High Court in Pietermaritzburg, Newcastle advocate Enock Manana even tried to blame her for"misunderstanding" the situation.
