PALI LEHOHLA | 4IR has prospect to free up access to education in the country

June 16 was an express struggle of black children's hunger for education to liberate them from the mundane daily struggles of life.

In similar ways, the #FeesMustFall movement is a loud cry for access and removal of deceptive history in teaching - what is referred to as decolonised education.Because of this, black children are bound to ask themselves the difficult question of whether black excellence is possible, or is it only by accident?

Black teachers are always at risk of losing their jobs as their schools face ever- diminishing populations and before we know it there is a strike by the teachers. What the level of unemployment reaching 30% and afflicting the youth at menacing speed and force means.I will assert that our policy focus is far from answering June 16 as a point of reference for etching our education in the spirit of Tsietsi Mashinini. The answer is similar to the one Okonjo got when he advocated a double intake at universities in Nigeria in order to address the pressing needs of human resources requirements.

The model of PhD study at South African universities needs to changeCOMMENT: Some universities in South Africa might be tempted to enrol PhD students to get the subsidy attached to them, even if they do not have sufficient supervision capacity. Why? Because more Indigenous people are obtaining these accolades?... 🖕 Absolutely true, these universities should stop being ivory towers but a bacon of hope.Iam saying this precisely because these varsities offered PHDs which end up being useless instead of solving the socio-economic problems in this country.E.g water/power . Neglect begins at Masters level!! Most supervisors are not trained to supervise postgrads adequately - having a PhD does not automatically qualify an individual as a supervisor. Apart from knowledge, there is an art (& commitment) to bring out the INTELLECTUAL best in students.
