Alleged Parliament arsonist Zandile Christmas Mafe returned to the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where a new charge – contravention of the Anti-Terrorism Bill – was added to his expansive charge sheet.

Mafe faces charges of arson, theft and terrorism.

As civil society calls for Mafe’s release, Advocate Dali Mpofu joined his legal team in his second court appearance and read from a medical report that the latter had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. The report also said that Mafe should undergo a 30-day mental evaluation at a psychiatric hospital.

He threatened to go on a hunger strike if his bail hearing was delayed any further. He was returned to Pollsmoor Prison until a bed becomes available at the Valkenberg Hospital, which is currently full.

The case has been postponed to February 11.

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
