A sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is officially in the works.
Deadline reports that director Destin Daniel Cretton has signed a multi-deal with Disney companies Marvel Studios and Hulu's Onyx Collective. The studio also announced that he would write and direct the second instalment in the Shang-Chi franchise.
Star Simu Liu also shared the news on Twitter, retweeting a Variety story with the caption: "Flopped so hard we got a sequel!"

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is Marvel's first film centring on an Asian superhero. The film had a primarily Asian cast which included Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Fala Chen and Meng'er Zhang.
According to Variety, the film has so far made $431 million at the worldwide box office, making it the eighth highest-grossing film.
In addition to the Shang-Chi sequel, the Just Mercy director is also working on a new Marvel series for Disney+.
