She recused herself from the process when her “right-hand man” was shortlisted, but eventually approved his appointment as a chief financial officer, despite him not meeting the requirements for the post.

This is what former Commission for Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL) CEO Pumla Madiba told investigators at the Public Protector’s office.
