Mihlali Ndamase explains her lip filler disaster

Vlogger and influencer Mihlali Ndamase has finally explained her notorious lip filler disaster.
About a month or so ago, her social media followers noticed that Mihlali’s appearance had changed significantly and they were not happy with it. She even trended on Twitter shortly after posting a TikTok video for a client in which her lips were visibly swollen.
In her latest YouTube Get Ready With Me (GRWM) video, she explained what happened.
In August, Mihlali says she went to a popular aesthetician to achieve a new appearance by getting lip fillers, an appearance that she previously had to rely on lip liner for.
“I basically felt like my lips were botched and obviously quite a few people noticed. I mean you guys know how may face looks,” said the vlogger as she applied makeup to her face while explaining what she was doing, why she was doing it, as well as what products she was using.
“When I was posting things on TikTok, I saw quite a few comments so I got them dissolved. Hence, why my lips look normal right now.”
She explained her reasons for wanting to be “transparent” about what happened, stating that she could not pretend as though the change was not noticeable.
“I honestly didn’t do them because of any insecurity about my lips or any insecurity about my face in actual fact. I honestly just wanted what I do to achieve a fuller lip but I wanted it naturally.”
“I love the bridge on full lips and I wanted that bridge so I thought ‘let me just go and buy this bridge’.”
Mihlali says she paid around R5,500 to get her fillers done but would not name the aesthetician because she didn’t want her to feel as though she was “dragging” her.

She says that she felt as though her lips looked “huge” immediately after getting the lip filler injections and added that the aesthetician assured her that the swelling would start to go down after a few days.
Her lips essentially did not shrink as fast and as much as she wanted to in the days that followed so she ended up getting the filler in her lips dissolved.
She explained the side effects of her initial procedure, what she felt she did wrong as well as the process of getting the lip fillers dissolved – which she emphasised was “very painful.”
“I work with my face, I definitely can’t shoot content with these and expect people not to notice.”
Mihlali concluded that lip fillers are for people who have enough time to take some downtime to heal long enough for the fillers to set and achieve the desired look.

She also found herself trending on the evening that she posted her video after a screenshot from her new platform went live. In the screenshot, it shows Ndamase along with a R25,000 price tag under her face.
Twitter users immediately began questioning if “does Mihlali charge R25k for a face beat”.
The site, called Malakyt, is a platform that aims to help people “find reliable beauticians” in [their] area.
