The PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza confirmed on Thursday that DStv is the new sponsor of the premier division. During a live broadcast, Khoza announced that the league would now be known as the DStv Premiership.
The pay-TV giant has replaced banking group Absa as the main sponsor.
The sponsorship consolidates the lucrative relationship between the PSL and the MultiChoice Group. SuperSport International is the broadcast partner of the PSL, and the group also sponsors the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, the PSL’s reserve league.
The new PSL season is set to begin next month, though a specific date has not yet been confirmed. Last season’s prize money was R15 million, and it remains to be seen if this will increase.

PSL Chairman Irvin Khoza said: “As the PSL continues to innovate with a quest to improve its product, it will have a full backing of DStv, whose offering requires an abundance of local content. There is no “them and us,” said Khoza.
“We are joined at the hip to produce enhanced consumption of the best product for our deserving supporters.”
