The 16th season of Grey's Anatomy will be cut short.
Production on the series went on a hiatus for two weeks earlier in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Deadline, the series will not resume production as cases of Covid-19 rises in the United States.
The ABC Network announced on Thursday that the finale of the long-running medical drama has been moved up to 9 April - the original date was 16 May - with the 21st episode as the season's finale, reports Entertainment Weekly.
Episode 21 - titled Put on a Happy Face - was the last one completed before the production went on a break.
Grey's Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff wrote on Twitter that they are disappointed that they cannot complete the storytelling this season, but that episode 21 is a satisfying finale.

The series is one of the shows that donated their equipment including masks, gowns and gloves to emergency workers tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
Grey's Anatomy airs Mondays at 20:00 on M-Net (DStv 101) we are four episodes behind the US, which means fans cans still enjoy the series for the next few weeks.
