Build in the time for self-care when you get the chance, whether that means planning meals that encourage you to eat well or sneaking in some joyful movement when your schedule gets hectic. Oh, and don’t underestimate the power of, Dr. Cotton says; most adults benefit from at least seven hours of shut-eye a night.

The research is still evolving, and more studies need to be done to understand how your mental health may affect your COVID risk specifically. What is clear, though, is that you can’t totally separate what’s happening in your brain from the rest of the body, Dr. Cotton says: “They interact and influence each other in pretty complex ways.”
