has become the thriller of the moment, combining teen drama, plane crash survival, and adult trauma into a delicious, cult-y, cannibalistic meal. It’s told across two timelines — 1996 after the crash, and the present day. Jasmin plays teenage Taissa, a competitive, ambitious soccer player who firmly refuses to believe in a supernatural element to the team’s experiences in the Canadian wilderness following a plane crash on their way to Nationals.
“It was healing to 16, 17 year old me who didn't get to have that,” Jasmin, now 27, says. “I didn't come out until I was 21. I didn't have a date to homecoming. I went with my friends. I never would have asked who I actually had a crush on, which was definitely a girl, so it was really healing to teenage Jasmine to get to have that moment.”Their relationship is important to the development of both characters — and to teasing out a very mysterious plot.
Supernatural vs. cult vs. trauma… what’s fueling teenage and adult Taissa’s fugue states? Until the season finale, Jasmin believed it was stress and trauma causing her to dissociate. And then: Simone discovers the severed head of the family dog Biscuits, set up like an offering in their basement. “I don't think that she's possessed, I think it is more stress and trauma,” Jasmin says. “But I’m not so sure anymore.
