Never a show to shy from tough subjects,"Sesame Street" is tackling America's opioid epidemic head on, revealing that Karli, the little green Muppet with yellow hair, was in foster care because her mother suffered from addiction.
The storyline is part of the Sesame Street in Communities project offering supplemental content free to providers, parents and caregivers, designed for kids who are often the unseen victims of addiction. Karli told NBC News that"I love my mom so much" but that"she couldn't take good care of me because she was having such a tough time."
"We all feel, like, our big feelings inside," Salia said. But"we're strong, and we can all work together to go through it."
This very nice I like it 👍
Who remembers the ep when Cookie Monster had the problem with chocolate crack cookies?
Ahhhhhh. Seriously, do preschoolers need to see this? You think they can grasp what addiction is?
WHO CARES ABOUT THIS.. FAKE NEWS
This is why that even happens! How does addiction get so bad & last so long?....cause people are exposed to it at a very young age. The younger you are when you get curious & try drugs, the worse it is. This is one of those times where education/conversions backfire.
Awww. They should introduce Karli on the reg show that airs daily. Not only do kids going through it need to see it but kids who aren't so they see that they are not better. They are luckier. All kids are special.
Next week on Sesame Street, Bert & Ernie finally come out and Big Bird announces plans for reassignment surgery. Be sure to tune in.
They should add a homeless encampment on the sidewalk to bring the set up to date.
There are just some things I’d like to keep others from discussing with my 2-4 year olds. I would t let them be watching SesameStreet at all. (Periot)

Somewhat sad that kids these days are being edu on this kind of social issue. I grew up with the muppets and they dealt with issues for sure, but this one strikes me as esp sad, but sadly, necessary.
It still doesn't address what drugs Snuffy the Snuffleupagus is on.
What the hell has this become?😂
Snuffaluffagus had been doing rails since the 80s and no one even seems to care.
I thought Mr. Snuffleupagus was the resident drug addict. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I agree this topic should be discussed to children and I applaud sesame street for doing this but its really sad that our children's shows have to discuss such a subject 😕 what is the world coming to?
I saw mommy smokin crack on the Muppet show tonight with miss piggy and animal.
I remember when Sesame Street's biggest worry was getting children to learn their ABC's and how to count to 10.
Not to make light of this because opioid/drug addiction should not be meant to laugh it, it's serious and f***ed up. But why is it that the new puppet reminds me of the 'Kneehigh Park' sketch from Chappelle's Show?
Just no.
Great! Maybe they could do an episode where one of the puppets has a loved one who suffers horribly from a chronic disease, then dies from the pain because she cannot get meds that give her back a quality of life. Or is that to real? Tired of watching my friends die in pain.
Correction: Cookie Monster was their first addict.
Opie
How sad. I didn't grow up like that. Of course we were outside at every chance, heatwaves and blizzards be damned.
Elmo: Wow, Karli. Your mom *sold* you? For *smack*?
Big Bird sold me cocaine in the 90s.
