Every major ski resort has a unique personality and a specific audience it speaks to. Some woo gourmets, some appeal to shoppers, some target beginners, families or high rollers. Some, unfortunately, appeal chiefly to people who care more about what they wear and who they see and are seen by then anything having to do with winter sport.Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows
in North Lake Tahoe is actually two sibling mountains, each quite large, sitting right next to each other, under shared ownership and one lift ticket, and likely will someday be combined via lifts into one mega-resort. But they are so close, with frequent free shuttle service, that they might as well be one, and between them there is an impressive 6,000 skiable acres, some of it with stunning views of Lake Tahoe.
And it is all about the snow, averaging a whopping 450 annual inches, which puts it in the nation’s top ten, and the top five among large destination resorts . Couple this prodigious amount of the white stuff with 300 sunny California days and an exceptionally long season and you get why Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is so well known for the quality of its spring skiing that they trademarked the name “Spring Skiing Capital.
That being said, while Squaw Village is no Aspen or Jackson or Breckenridge, it has way more to do then some popular ski destination hotspots like Alta and Snowbird, and there is more than enough in the way of food and beverage to keep guests happy for a week. For this winter there is even more, with several notable new additions.
