Women in Film, ReFrame and Time’s Up Accuse Disney of “Gendered Attack” on Scarlett Johansson

United States Headlines News

The statement didn’t sit well with WIF, ReFrame and Time’s Up. In the joint statement, the organizations steer clear of taking a position “on the business issues in the litigation,” instead zeroing in on comments about the pandemic and her salary.

“While we take no position on the business issues in the litigation between Scarlett Johansson and the Walt Disney Company, we stand firmly against Disney’s recent statement which attempts to characterize Johansson as insensitive or selfish for defending her contractual business rights,” reads the statement.

Johansson also received support Friday from her high-profile agent, CAA co-chair Bryan Lourd. In a rare public statement, the power player also took issue with the tenor of Disney’s statement. “They have shamelessly and falsely accused Ms. Johansson of being insensitive to the global COVID pandemic, in an attempt to make her appear to be someone they and I know she isn’t,” Lourd said. “Scarlett has been Disney’s partner on nine movies, which have earned Disney and its shareholders billions. The company included her salary in their press statement in an attempt to weaponize her success as an artist and businesswoman, as if that were something she should be ashamed of.

It wasn't a 'gendered attack'. But the idea a woman shouldn't be criticized for being greedy and insensitive most certainly is sexist. If ppl get the delta variant in the cinema, both the cinema and Disney are liable. Scarlett knows this but doesn't seem to care.

No where else have I read it's a gender issue. I believe it's strictly a contract issue. I honestly think you're just stirring the pot.

sjohanssonnet I didn't even know cruella was a movie. I thought it was a new Disney plus show until I saw it on a marquee as I was driving past the theater

Really? Gender thing....? The woman who gets paid better and more than thousands of men? Give me a break... gender caca...

And now it is a gender thing..

I’m sorry, did I break your concentration?

What about when Ms Scarlett Johansson defended Woody Allen and took roles from minority actors and said she should be allowed to play anyone even a tree it's very hard for me to defend a person who defended a pedophile and child molester

Time's Up is a few ladies being paid six-figure salaries by Steven Spielberg to act like they're doing something. This is not much of something.

Chapek has really wasted no time when it came to fucking up. Every step of the way their actions have begged for bad press, alienated important producers and talent, and ignited a firestorm of performers pushing back on the model Disney has been spending time and money to build.

What nonsense. Disney would have reacted the same way if this was Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth.

Come on, this is not a gender thing. Disney's douchebaggery is all inclusive

sjohanssonnet Who the hell said wamen can't sue people?

Is it though? Disney did something very similar to Alan Dean Foster over his Star Wars novel adaptions. I'm really not convinced that's it's a gender thing, more that the Mouse will screw anyone out of royalties if it thinks it can get away with it.

It's the women who use ad-hominem because they are devoid of reality and instead bring solipsistic, nihilistic euphemisms to justify an invisible 'oppression' pandered by the culturally manifested woke social order and corporatists today.

These women!! There's nothing gendered about the statement lmfaoo. These Hollywood women need to calm the fuck down

That's bollocks. What's sex to do with Disney's answer?

It's a stupid attack. It is not a gendered attack.

So instead of playing the race card, they’re gonna play the gender card? Where is the proof that they’re attacking ScarJo because she’s a woman? This could’ve been Chris Evans doing this and they probably would’ve done the same thing. 🙄

She's the only person in the entire movie that got paid 20 million and she still wants more. She's not fighting for a bigger cut of the profits for the supporting cast, the stunt men, the film crew or FX artists.. she got 20 million and wants more ..Greed aint a good look!

Wow now Emily Blunt is rumored to be joining the fight against Disney‼️🤯

What. A. REAAACH.

For Disney to even begin to judge an artist for wanting to be paid is beyond ludicrous. Disney has a long history of screwing over artists. 🤷🏼‍♀️
