Here's why we so often fail to see what's right before our eyes

Studies have shown that we often fail to perceive things that are “right before our eyes,” a sort of misinformation by omission.

The phenomenon, known as inattentional blindness, might explain how a man lived undetected in a professional football stadium for two years. Inattentional blindness makes it dangerous to text, browse, or talk on the phone while driving or walking. For two years, Tom Garvey lived in a “secret apartment” in Philadelphia’s Veterans Stadium. Almost no one noticed., we talked about the phenomenon of thinking we saw something that isn’t really there, like Bigfoot or an extinct species of tiger. Now we’re addressing the opposite – when we fail to see something that is there – which is a sort of misinformation by omission.was trying to get back on his feet after his military service.
