Liberal, democratic capitalist societies have many flaws, but also great virtues. The simplest way to spread these virtues is to let more people in

casts a ballot, his choice is unlikely to affect his life. If he votes with his feet, there is a good chance he will change his life dramatically, observes Ilya Somin of George Mason University, author of a forthcoming book, “Free to Move”. Consider Edinson Infante, a Venezuelan who makes handbags out of banknotes, folded and glued together. A single lipstick placed in one of his bags is worth far more than the stack of Bolivars from which it was made. That is why Mr Infante emigrated.

If people were allowed to vote freely with their feet, they would have more choices about the kind of society in which they lived. A gay man might choose to leave Iran, where his love is punishable by death, and move to Uruguay, where he could get married. A traditional Saudi man might choose to remain in Saudi Arabia, where Islamic piety is enforced and women are kept in their place. His wives might prefer to move to Canada, where they would be free to divorce him.

A worry about foot-voting is that it might retard reform in the places migrants leave. If the strongest objectors to Venezuela’s dictatorship have gone, who will stand up to it? It is a reasonable fear. When ethnic minorities flee to escape mistreatment, their departure may indeed reward their tormentors.

And the more Democrats will tale over.

This is speculation. Anyone claiming to understand how massive demographics change will play out is delusional. There are substantial risks to culture, wealth, and cohesion.

Thats what they want us to think but those of us not drinking the koolaid know this is property ponzi propaganda!

So say the divinators of The Economist

The Economist peddles lie after lie after lie. If these source countries open up THEIR doors to immigration will they become richer and more powerful? So by this logic, the UK doesn't need the EU because it has loads of immigration so it will be more powerful...

So flooding your country with African and Muslim refugees who won’t work makes good sense, how’s that possible pray tell

Oh yeah, this is definitely the more the better, u can never overdo, case! your economists r always like that?

I think it’s cute when publications like completely miss the fact that “rich countries” aren’t all the same. The amount each country’s social net can carry (and existing citizens can fund) varies considerably.

No. Only for TE directors: Rupert Pennant-Rea/ Zanny Minton Beddoes / Lady Suzanne Heywood, Brent Hoberman, Sir David Bell, John Elkann, Alex Karp, Sir Simon Robertson, Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, Chris Stibbs and Baroness Jowell /Andrew Rashbass, Rona Fairhead etc ...

Nobody can deny Italy is literally the single richest and most industrially successful country on earth, after all?

Wrong. We don't need Ponzi economics or Ponzi demographics:

Take in 200m Middle Easterners, 600m Chinese, 600m Indians, 600m Africans.. do you think the current population of the USA will feel empowered with their 2bn new neighbours who share maybe 2% of the same beliefs, values, and allegiances?

Or it could end up the opposite of your prediction. Doesn't it depend on the culture of the newcomers?

Is that why Greece is a total mess and Germany is in a recession?

BS!

The West's door has always been wide open for legal entrants......

RevokeArticle50 StopBrexit

West doesn't want to lose its 'identity' because those aging out are not like those it will need to open doors wider for. Should build capacity of potential migrants at home and make it easier for them to transition-like teaching languages of countries needing migrants.

Nonsense

Hit my like button, I will follow u but follow back too

Yeah, 'let more people in' and eventually cease to be 'liberal, democratic and capitalist' 😂😂

'Many flaws' is such a cute euphemism for 'we are choking the planet into a coma'.

I agree. We should force open borders for Israel.

Amen! Instead of bitching about our local Chick-fil-As hurting your sensitivities, just move to San Francisco. There's not a single one on the peninsula. Plus, there are millions of like-minded snowflakes there. If you hurry, you can catch the next flight. Go, go, go, go...

Nope
