George W. Bush’s chief media strategist never had a great relationship with the Cheney family. But now? Liz Cheney has his support.

As someone who has had a strained and awkward relationship with the Cheney family over the years, put me on record as saying, “Thank God there’s a Republican left with backbone. Someone who stands for the truth—and for something more than holding on to power at any cost.”for more than a decade—as he went from Texas governor to two-term president. And through it all, I was never a Cheney guy.

And we did. Over the course of two presidential terms, I had one other conversation with him. One. It was at a White House Christmas party. I was pleased, then, and not a bit surprised, when Liz ended up in the House of Representatives—and in the congressional leadership to boot. It made perfect sense that, forced to make a choice, she would stand up against the Big Lie that somehow the 2020 election had been “stolen” fromAnd let’s be clear: Liz Cheney—from her leadership position by a majority of her congressional GOP colleagues—is not being punished for not being conservative enough.
