No realistic scenario ? I can readily offer one. NATO agrees not to expand into Ukraine or Georgia. Anyone who thinks Russia’s position unreasonable might recall how the US freaked out at the prospect of nuclear weapons in Cuba & consider Russia’s history of suffering invasion.

He's threatening it because he wants to restore the Russian empire.

NATO is in a desperate attempt to encircle Russia, China, and Iran. In order to do that they are lying all the time about everything. Brazil is paying a high price for its unconditional alignment with them.

…but, rather than achieve that new post-Cold War order through cooperation and integration with the rest of Europe and the West, Putin engages in intimidation and coercion to strong-arm the changes he so desires.
