Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Iron Man went through an interesting personal journey during his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and one of his most important moments was when he destroyed all of his armors before Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Tony Stark’s constant search for improvement was also reflected in his many Iron Man armors and the high-tech gadgets and more he came up with throughout his time in the MCU, even building suits and more for fellow superheroes.
Why Iron Man Destroyed His Armors In The Clean Slate Protocol The first battle of the original Avengers in the MCU, the Battle of New York, had serious consequences for Tony Stark. Iron Man 3 saw the genius billionaire dealing with severe anxiety and PTSD, and his way of coping with it was building more and more Iron Man suits. Named the Iron Legion, these were a variety of Iron Man suits Tony Stark built for all possible eventualities, but Tony also designed the Clean Slate Protocol.
The Battle of New York, his mental health struggles, and almost losing Pepper Potts during the Battle on the Norco in Iron Man 3 led Tony Stark to decide to destroy all of his armors in order to spend more time with Pepper and show her the suits weren’t a distraction from her and what’s really important, as she used to think. Tony even got surgery to extract the shrapnel near his heart and thus get rid of the arc reactor on his chest, marking the beginning of a temporary retirement.
Why Iron Man's Armor Obsession Didn't Last Tony Stark’s obsession with being the hero the world needed and his relentless commitment to improvement for the Greater Good was his biggest obstacle. While Tony’s tech definitely helped the world and other MCU heroes, his obsession ended up throwing him back into action, and it didn’t really matter that he destroyed 33 armors as he built a second Iron Legion.
