Why Entrepreneur Raquel Horn Is On A Mission To Raise Awareness Around Infertility
With a massive platform as the fiancée of Damon Dash , Raquel recognized the unique opportunity she has to inspire others dealing with infertility, and she's on a mission to do just that.
According to the CDC, National Survey of Family Growth of 2006-2010, 1 in 8 couples in the U.S. has trouble getting pregnant or sustaining a pregnancy. When someone has difficulty conceiving, they are often diagnosed as having an infertility issue, disease, or reproductive system condition. A couple of ages 29 - 33 with a normal functioning reproductive system has only
a 20-25% chance of conceiving in any given month. After six months of trying, 60% of couples will conceive without medical assistance."After some treatment with my OB/GYN, we opted to see a fertility clinic," said Raquel. Following a series of insemination cycles that were not successful, they pursued in-vitro fertilization (IVF). After the egg retrieval and fertilization process, they had two viable embryos. They transferred one, and it resulted in a pregnancy with a baby girl. Heartbreakingly, Ms. Horn would lose the baby at seven and a half months.
"It was the most traumatic experience I have ever had to go through," Ms. Horn shared."I am fortunate to have such a dedicated partner. He had taken away my phone, deleted all my baby apps, removed every baby item from the house, and eliminated as many triggers as possible. I'm eternally grateful." headtopics.com
After the recommended time elapsed after Raquel's tragic loss, they decided to transfer the one last frozen embryo they had. Luckily, it took and is now their 6-month son.Raising Awareness and Removing StigmaModern-day renaissance woman, creative director of Poppington, and music mogul Damon Dash's fiancé,
