“People … accuse me of something that I didn’t intend,” he said of the political anthem.

Elvis Costello is heading back on tour this summer after COVID-19 halted his shows. But one song will be notably missing from his setlist.

“Only takes one itchy trigger — one more widow, one less white [N-word],” Costello sings in the political anthem, inspired by the Troubles in Northern Ireland and his encounters with young soldiers involved in the conflict. The song was long played uncensored on UK airwaves until 2013, when a BBC station bleeped the slur to the dismay of some listeners, who argued that its omission diluted the song’s anti-war message.

Opinion | We all need to be paying more attention to why Joe Rogan joined GettrConservative social media platforms are on the rise because many on the right feel like their voices are disproportionately being ostracized by established tech giants. THINK Understand that Rogan has a tendency to conspiracy thinking. He thought the moon landing was faked, he’s friends with Alex Jones. He’s fascinated by the whole govt deep state cover up shit. He’s going to the right place THINK The truth needs to be balanced, not the dialogue that uproots destroys and kills our democracy, and builds inroads for an extremist, white nationalist, to become more of a threat to our nation and Americans. These people will be solely responsible for opening the doors for Russia THINK Why should I value the opinion of CarrieSheffield of the Koch-backed anti-feminist Independent Women’s Forum? The NYT called the IWF 'a right-wing public policy group that provides pseudofeminist support for extreme positions that are in fact dangerous to women.' No thanks.
