Why 1917Movie is the last film that should be winning the Oscar, according to OwenGleiberman

,” Sam Mendes’ grandiose but facile WWI-in-one-shot film, might win out over all of them. Attention, Academy voters: Is thatI realize these judgments are subjective, yet handing the Oscar to “” would, I think, be such a mistake and such a blown opportunity, reflecting such a tidy, made-to-order view of what a stirring and “important” war film is.

But it’s far from the only one. Here’s what I think it’s going to feel like on Oscar night if any one of the key competing films wins best picture. Only one, I suspect, will leave you with that sinking feeling.and say, “It’s time,” they’re talking about Hollywood politics.

OwenGleiberman Not clicking.

OwenGleiberman Is this movie worth watching

OwenGleiberman The writer chooses all the movies that center around men and laments 1917. Okay. No arguments for any Little Women or Marriage Story are immaculately constructed films? Just Joker? Once Upon a Time? Irishman? Sigh

This sort of click-bait hate piece is unbecoming of an industry trade. It also fails to recognize and acknowledge a difference of opinion. It also calls 1917 facile and then goes on to praise Joker, the most facile of all the nominees. So... no. Bad article.

OwenGleiberman For AMPAS to start selecting films based on a certain criteria is a slippery slope. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is being criticized for elitism for how they select their members. Allow the voters to vote without some hidden agenda.

OwenGleiberman A tweet that's a sales pitch for Gleiberman's book. Sad.

OwenGleiberman Critics should stop dragging down frontrunners every awards season. It's exhausting. How unprofessional of OwenGleiberman.

OwenGleiberman Absolutely ridiculous justifications. Writer needs to find an alternate job. Clearly sucks at making a logical arguments.

OwenGleiberman Lmao you think that Joker should win over 1917. Lmaoooo!!!!!

OwenGleiberman I never respond to anything - but get OUT of here with this utter NONSENSE

OwenGleiberman If 1917 really win what you gonna give me..

OwenGleiberman Everyone has their favorites but may the best one win !! I’d be happy if Jonathan Pryce wins Best Actor but I’m not gonna be mad when Joaquin wins 😁 relax and enjoy a good year for films

OwenGleiberman Oh dear, another serious case of criticitis, making the overdosed reviewer so numb, they diminish an exceptional dramatic, emotional, and technical achievement in favor of the hip. Sad.

OwenGleiberman I think he is upset he can’t vote

OwenGleiberman So many bad takes, it’s hard to know where to start with this one...

OwenGleiberman What a shit take. IMO 1917 is in the middle of the Oscar pack and would be underwhelming, but saying OUATIH is a better pick because Tarantino is overdue? Joker a better choice because it has enthusiastic fans and some critics were too harsh? Ridiculous.

OwenGleiberman Let’s not forget Birdman - which also won more for the stunt than the art. Boyhood should have won that year.

OwenGleiberman If you don’t think a film that masterfully accomplished a something that’s never even been attempted before, then maybe being a film critic - or even publicly sharing your opinion about anything in the world of entertainment for that matter - just isn’t in your wheelhouse.

OwenGleiberman The Nightingale got snubbed.

OwenGleiberman roadmapwriters Fantastic breakdown Owen, agree and disagree with some points. You lay out a great arguement. 1917TheMovie would be a disappointment if it wins Best Picture or Director. For me it comes down to TheIrishmanFilm vs JokerMovie it will be fun watching it play out.

OwenGleiberman 1917 is the better film

OwenGleiberman 1917 is very bland, beautiful but bland. Knives Out and Little Women deserve recognition more so than 1917, The Irishman, and the awful Joker.

OwenGleiberman It was a great film but doctor sleep was more entertaining

OwenGleiberman Joker or Parasite needs to win best picture. I’m sick of these war movies. Time for something new.

OwenGleiberman aaaand I think I’ll just repeat my reply to this Variety post from this morning

OwenGleiberman I wonder if it's exhausting for owen gleiberman knowing there are millions of people out in the world liking things he doesn't like

OwenGleiberman You literally said Joker should be a top contender to win umm what

OwenGleiberman What a silly argument. There’s no normative argument when it comes to Academy Awards. It’s just a vote by members.

'In light of the recent outrage over your 2019 lists, how can we keep the hate clicks coming?'

OwenGleiberman 'In light of the recent outrage over your 2019 lists, how can we keep the hate clicks coming?'

OwenGleiberman Totally agree that Brokeback was cheated out of Best Pic. I know you'll disagree, but I think La La Land really should have won Best Pic; and Once Upon a Time was unbearable; it made my 8-hour flight seem like 12.

OwenGleiberman There's 8 others, Owen.

Give everybody an award, a piece of pie, and send them home happy.

OwenGleiberman According to who? Some nobody? His opinion counts for nothing.
