Citing 'current evidence,' the WHO says the coronavirus doesn't seem to linger in the air. But at least one expert in virus transmission argues it's way too soon to know — and that it's 'dangerous' to say otherwise.

the virus that causes COVID-19 doesn't seem to linger in the air or be capable of spreading through the air over distances more than about three feet."I think the WHO is being irresponsible in giving out that information. This misinformation is dangerous," says Dr., an infectious disease aerobiologist at the University of Maryland School of Public Health.

Other viruses, however, get shed by infected people in a way that lets the germs actually hang suspended in the air for minutes or even hours. Later, these airborne viruses can get breathed in when other people pass by. Measles is a good example of that kind of transmission—the Centers for Disease Control and Preventionthat"Measles virus can remain infectious in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area.

That troubles Milton, who says so little is known about this new virus, SARS-CoV-2, that it's inappropriate to draw conclusions about how it is transmitted. He says people like to think that there's some sharp, black-and-white distinction between"airborne" viruses that can linger and float in the air, and ones that only spread when embedded in larger moist droplets picked up through close contact, but the reality of transmission is far more nuanced.

This NPR article is quite misleading. Everyone should be wearing some sort of mask, preferably of course N95 but even a scarf (provides protection against large droplets), when in grocery stores. Gloves too.

Actually “current evidence” suggests the exact opposite.

WHO ALSO congratulated China for making sure it wouldn't spread to other countries. Fuck them.

Because fear is for right-wingers. Defund WHO.

WHO is horrible at this

Yeah, I'm not eager and ready to listen to WHO about how I can chill re this Contagion. They have a guideline that you don't wear masks unless you have it. Taiwanese are all into masks for every waking moment, and their numbers are bottoming down.

Yo, who is to say if it's not a super form of the swine flu or something ! All it takes is a cough or a sneeze, right ! These people are doing all kinds of shit behind closed doors then incorporating it into everyone else's life( I don't condone it but it's going on ) Beasting Out

Uh... I dont think China did this for fun...this is them sterilizing the public areas

All of Asia is wearing face masks. They seem to have best success containing virus.

China's telling WHO to say what and NPR repeats?

trusting WHO

We need to make these loser Chinese bar and eat eaters pay for what they did. If Americans did this, we would be hung to dry.

theresaboyle If there is doubt, the precautionary principle should apply. But this has gone out the window in Ontario and elsewhere, due to a lack of planning for sufficient supplies. Alberta is now going in a different direction.

Anyone that sneeze or cough I'm pretty sure is going to be carried by the wind. And if you are in the proximity; the odds of you breathing some of that in is very high

So they are claim there is no h2h transmission, again. Is that the 3rd or 4th time?

WHO is jumping the gun and putting world safety in jeapordy. Nobody should trust them at this point even the cdc was contradicting them back when they claimed h2h transmission was not a risk.

Great photo NPR give me a break. Is it from the 50’s?

I am going to treat it like it does. Better safe than sorry.

BeckyD316

is that Belushi?

Can we please acknowledge that WHO just says whatever is politically convenient for their organization and should not be taken seriously since everything they say has to be considered suspect and analyzed.

Defund NPR.

Seems like WHO is trying to get everyone sick. Everything they’ve said is wrong

Believing the WHO at this point is dangerous

Ugh that picture of that sneeze... It's no wonder so many doctors and nurses are sick. That nasal swab, I'm sure, induces a sneeze. Without a mask or eye protection, a face guard...

W.H.O needs to be defunded and disbanded. Right along with NPR 😁

11 days ago the WHO said it was airborne:

Virus delays review of the Nuclear Nonproliferation TreatyUNITED NATIONS (AP) — The 191 parties to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty have decided to postpone a conference to review its implementation because of the coronavirus pandemic, the United... See we don't need to worry about blowing each other up when we are too busy battling a good old fashion plague... (WHO cares if it was possibly bio engineered as population control mechanism) Hasn’t worked anyway - anyone who wants them has them. What I don't understand is why they don't this kind of thing online? They have the technology to do it. I think we should insist that they do international conferences online or terminate. That would get rid of all those conferences that outlive their original purpose.
