WHO temporarily drops hydroxychloroquine, the malaria drug touted by US President Trump, from its global study into experimental Covid19 treatments

Countries where coronavirus infections are declining could still face an"immediate second peak," WHO warns, while UN health agency halts trial of hydroxychloroquine drug in patients citing safety reasons.

The World Health Organization has suspended testing the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine in Covid-19 patients due to safety concerns, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday. He said the other arms of the trial – a major international initiative to hold clinical tests of potential treatments for the virus – were continuing.Hydroxycholoroquine has been touted by Donald Trump and others as a possible treatment for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The US President has said he was taking the drug to help prevent infection.

Dr Mike Ryan, head of the WHO emergencies programme, said the decision to suspend trials of hydroxychloroquine had been taken out of "an abundance of caution."Ryan also said epidemics often come in waves, which means that outbreaks could come back later this year in places where the first wave has subsided.

How Bad Is The COVID-19 Misinformation Epidemic?Compared to research on the 2016 election, preliminary findings on coronavirus misinformation suggest more people are seeing—and believing—misinformation now. It may have something to do with the challenge of understanding a new disease. ridiculous No thanks to the Fake News. Humans attack things they don’t understand and don’t wanna learn about. I’m not at all shocked that people are calling it a hoax. We’re literally living in the US version of Parasite. As the poor are dying and the well off are screaming about haircuts and Costco.
