Photo: Liisa Jokinen As New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020 drew to a close, showgoers flaunted some of their last looks in the city before jetting off to Paris, London, and Milan. Photographer Liisa Jokinen (the founder of Gem and the lens behind Hel Looks and NYC Looks) caught plenty of stylish people outside of the Michael Kors show and Spring Studios. Scroll down to see 16 of them — including stylists, writers, influencers, and designers — explain how they decided what to wear. Lauren Carruso, site director at the Zoe Report and freelance creative consultant, 31 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing a vintage menswear blazer, a maxi dress from Sir the Label that I pinned to a midi length, a pair of wide-leg pants from Mijeong Park, Wandler boots, and a Michael Kors bag. The lipstick is MAC’s Ruby Woo. I gravitate toward easy neutrals in interesting silhouettes, like boxy blazers or structured coats. Almost everything in my closet can be paired, which makes getting dressed in the morning easy. I love finding new brands and paying close attention to the way they shoot their clothing. Even if the brand doesn’t fit my style profile, I often come away with a new way to wear something or feel inspired to look at my own closet differently.” Instagram: @laurencaruso_ Cary Tauben, fashion stylist and TV personality, 32 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing Michael Kors shoes, bag, and denim, a Balenciaga turtleneck, and a vintage jacket and belt. My inspiration comes from different eras, travel, colors, and patterns, and really from whatever is going inside my brain.” Camille Co, content creator and entrepreneur, 31 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing a Dorothee Schumacher blue coat and orange puffer, a Louis Vuitton denim button-down and jeans, a Prada bag, Fendi boots, and a Louis Vuitton scarf. I’m all about dressing for myself — what makes me feel and look good. At the end of the day, your style should lift you up. Listen to your instincts and don’t second guess yourself.” Instagram: @itscamilleco Jenny Walton, illustrator and designer, 30 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing a Marc Jacobs tweed jacket, a vintage coat dress, a vintage skirt, a second-hand Louis Vuitton purse, and Maryam Nassir Zadeh shoes. I believe in having fun and playing with color.” Emily Prugnaud, high-school student from Paris, 16 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I am wearing a vintage Fendi trench coat, simple baggy jeans, leather Chelsea boots from & Other Stories, and a bag and sweater from Soeur. I like to dress in more masculine clothing because it makes me feel powerful. My style philosophy is this: Always experiment with clothing, think out of the box, and be loud.” Instagram: @emilyprugnaud Shelby Furber, social media manager for S/Magazine, 26 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing a Simon Miller dress, a vintage trench, a Michael Kors purse, and Gucci loafers. I like to have a mix of old classics and modern statements.” Instagram: @shelby_furbz Dominic Calvert-Lewin, soccer player, 22 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing Gucci. My style philosophy is to stand out from the crowd.” Instagram: @domcalvertlewin Thomas Davis, soccer player, 21 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I am wearing Gucci head-to-toe. My style philosophy is to wear what makes me happy. Colors inspire me.” Instagram: @1tomdavies Shannon Adducci, style director at Footwear News, 35 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing a Dries Van Noten coat that I bought on The RealReal, vintage leather pants from the ’80s found on Etsy, a puff-sleeved sweater from & Other Stories, a vintage Paloma Picasso belt also from The RealReal, a vintage Chanel bag, Schutz boots, J.Crew earrings, Rag & Bone sunglasses, and a vintage costume chain necklace that can also be worn as a belt. In the past two years I made a concerted effort to buy more responsibly. Nearly all of my clothing is now vintage or from a secondhand retailer — and I find that I enjoy the hunt for great pieces more when I look in those places. My family deals in estate jewelry, art, and antiques so I’ve always known the value in giving old things new life, but it’s exciting to see more people are turning to that lifestyle. Footwear, which is what I work in, is inherently more difficult to navigate secondhand — no one wants to wear other people’s shoes, and footwear wears down faster than, say, a coat or dress. I think it’s really incumbent on the footwear industry right now to find more ways to recycle footwear components and materials.” Instagram: @shannonadducci Didi Nanakorn, stylist, 33 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing Ralph Lauren coat, Wrangler top, Double Diamond pants, and Givenchy boots. Busy world inspires my style.” Instagram: @narakorn_didi Moana Luu, chief content and creative officer at Essence, 38 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “My clothes are Victor Glemaud, my shoes are Bottega Veneta, my coat is Jacquemus, my earrings are Chloe, my bag is Longchamp, and my ring is L’enchanteur. My style is often related to my mood of the day. Today I wanted to be comfortable and bold and support at least one black designer.” Instagram: @moanaluu Elijah Crawford, creative director and model, 25 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “Many of the pieces were selected from thrift stores throughout Philadelphia. The color palette of the turquoise turtleneck, grandma sweater, and suede khakis are all brought together with the yellow ‘Careless Bastard’ furby chain and woven ‘Pieces of’ bracelet. My philosophy is to find a style that matches your personality and take it to the max.” Instagram: @foxxy_grandpa_ Siying Qu, designer for Private Policy, 27 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing some pieces from our Private Policy FW20 runway. I just love the look so much that I had to wear it even for such a warm NY winter. My style philosophy: Be myself be in the moment and be kind to the Earth and fellow Earth citizens.” Instagram: @siying_qu Ash Foo, model, 23 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing a Burberry coat, a Givenchy hoodie, a Prada bag, an Urban Outfitters skirt, and UGG slippers.” Instagram: @ash_foo Vincent Beier, model and gender activist, 21 Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing vintage Levi’s jeans, an Acne bomber, Yeezy sneaks, Porsche x Carrera sunglasses, and a By Far bag. Anything inspires me: celebrities, people of Instagram, cool people on the streets. Anything, really.” Instagram: @vincentbeier Nikki Ogunnaike, deputy fashion director at GQ Photo: Liisa Jokinen “I’m wearing an Alpha industries jacket, Comme des Garçons Play blouse, Peter Do pants, Chloe boots, a Loewe bag, and Warby Parker sunglasses. My style philosophy is classic, comfortable, and slightly twisted.” Instagram: @nikkiogun Read more: The Cut
