White House announces diplomatic boycott of Beijing Olympics

The White House on Monday announced a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, citing China’s persecution of ethnic Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang region and other human rights abuses.

The administration’s decision — a diplomatic half measure which will allow American athletes to compete in the games but bar U.S. government officials from attending — comes after the United States has repeatedly criticized China’s ruling Communist Party for a string of human rights issues, provocative geopolitical maneuvers, unfair economic and forced labor practices, and a lack of international cooperation.

Asked on Monday whether the United States had notified other nations of its plans for a diplomatic boycott of the games, Psaki responded: “We have informed them of our decision, and obviously we will leave it to them to make their own decisions.”

Good riddance. America is becoming irrelevant by the day.

“Diplomatic boycott” None sense. Basically diplomats are those who attend, smile to the cameras, clap joyful thus give credit to the hosting nation. Mr Biden just Boycott participation to the PRC Olympics, a country that has no respect nor value to human dignity.

Meaningless virtue signaling gesture by a White House that’s clearly afraid of the CCP.

Point of the games is to come together in peace & goodwill & to join in athletic competition. US leaders have difficulty with the concept of cooperation. Leaders are more comfortable with concepts of intimidation & domination. This is unhelpful for the well-being of our world

It’s a crime from our side to ignore Saudi Arabia (oil?) for unlawful killings and executions, people simply disappearing for criticising the House of Saudi. Beheading non violent offenders, allowing such a large part of the population to live in utter poverty etc griffin_ghia .
