Find out what happens when white women are not allies of black women and the microaggressions that hurt relationships work.

showed that black women experience more microaggressions at work compared to women of other races. However, this does not come as a surprise to many black female professionals, who do not discuss this openly for fear of being misunderstood. According to Catalyst.org,of all management positions, compared to only 3.8% of black women.

My advice to black women is to share your story highlighting specific behaviors and actions needed to create a truly inclusive culture. Advocate for talent management, leadership development, and succession planning processes and resources that address the unique needs of multicultural women. Call out and address the unspoken norms and cultural nuances that pressure black women to be"less black" in order to succeed due to erroneous stereotypes, bias, and prejudice.

Neuroscience tells us these attacks are often unconscious and unintentional, however, the negative impact on many black women’s careers and reputations is undeniable. My advice to all black women in business is make sure you have choices. Choose to manage your emotional intelligence and your personal brand. Build an undeniable reputation for excellence. Save at least six months of living expenses so you have the choice to be in your role because you want to, not because you have to.

People usually extrapolate from their own experience, and that does not fully work here. The levels of bias, overt and unconscious, can be stunning. They can encompass everything from off-hand comments and assumptions to outright hostility and illegal behavior such as sexual harassment or worse.

Coping mechanisms, the ability to shrug off offense and not let it affect your self-esteem, grit, resilience, and tenacity are all critical qualities. I think black women professionals must have deeper resources to draw upon, especially when the assumptions and “takes” of others about them can be so wrong. Even if code switching, they also need to adapt to the prevailing culture, at least enough to be recognized and valued.

Why do black women have to act a certain way? Why does acting one way make them “less black”?

Could you be any more racist?

Excellent insight. Well done.

“White women hold 32.5% of all management positions, compared to only 3.8% of black women.”. If black US population is close to 12%, then this number reflects the general population. And?

Humans in general have a bias towards those who have similar views and perception of the world. Please don't make this a race issue.

That’s racist

White 'allies' are always anti-White.

As a white woman who has been in a number of leadership roles in my career, our fellow white women are often jealous of us and can’t wait to stab us in the back. It isn’t all rosie in our world either.

Forbes......you're drunk. Go home

Shame on you for this article. Now,do,one, about how white women have been helping since forever, like my mother when segregation was still alive here in the South.

“But that is a truly difficult thing when someone else’s journey has been very different from your own.”

Forbes jumping head first into sowing racial division and hatred.

...at the end of the day they r still answering to someone...

It's about time someone stood up to all those white ladies.
