, I had my popcorn ready. The series follows Paltrow, Goop’s head of content Elise Loehnen, and other Goop employees as they explore alternative methods of healing over the course of six episodes. The trailer immediately generated controversy, with many fearing it would continue to promote pseudoscience as an alternative to actually going to the doctor.
Watching the show, the creators and participants are clearly aware of Goop’s reputation within the medical community. Each episode begins with a disclaimer stating the show is meant to entertain and inform, not provide any medical advice. Then, the format of each episode is straightforward: Paltrow and Loehnen interview various experts who guide whatever they’re trying out , then Loehnen, and sometimes Paltrow, sample the different techniques alongside members from every level of Goop’s staff.
Mostly because the premise focuses on exploring health claims and alternatives without truly promoting them, the majority of the episodes play it safe for a show that promised to explore “ideas that may seem ‘out there,’ or too scary” . I wanted to see a level of insider-y, aspirational wellness that only someone like Paltrow knows about, or at least the tackling of topics that hadn’t already been covered bycirca 2015.
GwynethPaltrow netflix She could smear shit all over face and call it a mask and you guys would fawn all over her.
