Evans said this is partly a result of harsh punishments for minor dress-code violations based on sexist and racist stereotypes. “If that is the first message that students feel each and every day that they’re walking into school, how do we possibly and realistically think that their mental health and their academic brains are really working at 100%?” said Granados.
