” remake. “Steven Spielberg has this fantastic tradition of stopping after the first shot that you’re in, and basically announcing and applauding anybody who has entered into the making of the movie,” says James, who plays Sgt. Krupke. “The first scene that I was in, I was way in the back — I might as well have been wallpaper. He says, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, Brian d’Arcy James is in the movie!’ And then he went on and did that for everyone else too.
It didn’t take long after Spielberg announced he was remaking the classic that some wondered why he would tinker with such a beloved film. James defends the decision, pointing to the frequent restaging of plays and musicals on Broadway. “I’m not precious about these things. Maybe it’s because I’ve spent a lot of time in the theater, where revivals are a main thread of what we do, particularly musicals,” says James, a three-time Tony nominee.
Does he “guarantee” something with Suzy Kolber again?
Love Paula Poundstone!!!
Screw Hollywood for always having gatekeepers decide what gets made into a film or not - investors are risk averse cowards who only bankroll remakes and sequels. Hence, here we are in the early 21st century dark age of cinema.
Completely agree with him. No one's going to George Lucas the originals out of existence. Hell, four of the best-reviewed movies of the year are literally remakes: Dune, The Tragedy of Macbeth, West Side Story, and CODA.
Many movie remakes are created to supplant the originals on TV and in public consciousness, often so that studios can renew/retain IP rights. Theatrical revival producers, directors more often have artistic, dramaturgical, as well as commercial motivation.
You deserve to be held accountable too. Writing an article about a man who raped women is disgusting. Get some dignity and stop openly supporting Dr. Luke.

I can’t believe an actor in a remake thinks people should be excited about remakes.
