OAKLAND — A body found earlier this month has been identified as a a 48-year-old mother of five killed nearly two decades ago, authorities said.

Members of the district attorney’s office joined Oakland police and Federal Bureau of Investigation staff and one of Alonzo’s children at the scene. “We cannot begin to imagine the pain and unrest that her family must have felt through all this time not knowing where Linda was. Our thoughts are with them.”
Oakland police initially pursued a missing-person investigation that eventually became a homicide case with Mora as its suspect. Although investigators at the time were swamped by then-record numbers of homicides, slowing progress on Alonzo’s case, they were able to glean information that led the district attorney’s office to file murder charges in February 2007.
